The Language of Drawing: Word and Image

Examination of the relationship of text and image in contemporary drawing. Through readings and lectures, we will examine how one reads a drawing or work of art via the lenses of history, cultural history, and material culture. This class will examine the technologies historically used in making both text and image--printing press, calligrapher?s brush, pencil, photography, computer, etc.
