Magliery is a very fair professor. There is definitely a lot of content, but he gives practice exams that are JUST like the midterms. Yes, the final is cumulative, and metabolism is a lot, but he literally takes past midterm questions and puts it on the final, so you know what to expect

  • BIOCHEM4511Dec 12, 2025quality 2.0difficulty 5.0

I'm sure he's a nice guy, but lectures were useless. Majority of lectures was complete yapping about previous minor information. Class was also structured poorly. MT's are generally fair, but he made the prep for the final a lot more difficult than it needed to be considering very little about the TCA cycle was asked.

  • BIOCHEM4511Dec 11, 2025quality 2.0difficulty 4.0

If he used lecture to teach what is necessary to pass and got straight to the point instead of wasting time over explaining low-yield topics, maybe we wouldn't of had to finish the material only 3 days before the final. MT (mostly) were fair, but final is cumulative and all of metabolism was super rushed. Medieval torture has nothing on this class

  • BIOCHEM4511Dec 11, 2025quality 1.0difficulty 4.0

Here's the thing the midterms were pretty mangable with a good amount of studying. The final is cumulative for no good reason. We JUST finished learning metabolism which is the hardest part of the course so why add on old stuff? Lecture is useless. Does not give EC or many "easy points" like you'd give from other hard science courses.

  • BIOCHEM4511Dec 10, 2025quality 1.0difficulty 5.0

Death is a thousandfold more merciful than the final for this class. First part of the semester was barely manageable but second half is just hopeless. The final is cumulative and he taught new stuff 3 days before the final. It has inspired me to go out of my way to never engage in biochemistry ever again.
